The Story 

With Dante (a total self-insert from the author!) unable to find the 'right way' he begins his journey through the three domains of the afterlife. The first is the most famous. Inferno is a medieval Catholic hell that punishes each sin with poetic justice. It is classic literature that gives us our modern conception of hell and has inspired countless adaptations. 

We wanted to highlight the theme of shared experience at the core of the poem. The incalculable dead suffer fates tied to their earthly deeds. Our book poster uses the famous words inscribed above the gates of hell as our The Divine Comedy: Inferno quote. We also use William Blake art to show Virgil and Dante's companionship as they crossed the threshold together. Whilst Blake's colours give a false impression that hell is actually quite pretty, Virgil and Dante's journey encountering sinners through the different circles of hell is certainly not pretty! 

As a result, our vintage book poster is perfect for readers and booklovers looking for literary gifts to create an authentic bookish decor true to the literary classic whilst being beautiful to look at.
