To the Lighthouse - Virginia Woolf

Our To the Lighthouse Title Page art print inspired by Virginia Woolf reflects the passing of time and the many perspectives that make up a life.

Part of our Title Page collection, this literary print pairs words and imagery to express what the story means to us. It is our interpretation of the work, rather than a reproduction of a published book cover.

The Story Behind the Design

"And all the lives we ever lived and all the lives to be are full of trees and changing leaves."

To the Lighthouse is a deep novel. We move in and out of the thoughts of multiple characters creating a world made up of interweaving and often contradictory perceptions. This constant movement and unknowing are coloured by the mortality pervading characters' thoughts, Or, in other words. no matter the perspective everything always ends the same way.

This is one of many 'ways of seeing' we hope to distill in our art print. We use an enduring lighthouse and contrast this with a Virginia Woolf quote describing the continuous march of time in the changing of the seasons. Just as a lighthouse stands on a coastline battered with shifting tides, there is a reassuring solidity in the constancy of movement and change.
