The Story
Whether the lead character of Mansfield Park is a parody of a Regency heroine or straightforwardly wholesome remains a question for each reader to answer. Either interpretation being equally viable demonstrates the complexity of the character at the centre of the text. Fanny experiences intense conflict between gratitude to her adoptive family whilst repressing her desires to rebel against them. Her timidity is a defence mechanism. She is determined to survive and goes on to undermine prevailing attitudes in her privileging of conscience above obedience and love above duty. Mansfield Park is darker than it seems, particularly when read with a contemporary perspective of Austen's historical moment.
Fanny takes comfort in solitude and does not find her identity in her interactions with others as so many other Austen heroines do. As such, our bookish print uses a cottagecore-inspired image of Fanny in Mansfield's rose garden. We aim to capture the ambiguities of the novel by surrounding Fanny with a classic country scene of regency beauty and propriety whilst remaining totally alone and obliged to fit in with her surroundings. This results in a vintage book poster perfect for readers and book lovers looking for Jane Austen gifts to curate an authentic bookish decor experience that stays true to the themes of this classic literature.
Our Jane Austen print uses light academia and cottagecore themes to create a bookish classic literature poster - a perfect book lovers gift for any reading corner, college apartment, or indie room decor.
Take Jane Austen's Mansfield Park beyond the shelf with our watercolour book poster. This book cover poster adds hope to any home décor - a great bookish gift for the book nook of book lovers!
