The Story
"There is a wisdom of the head and there is a wisdom of the heart."
Although he tried to hide it from his social circle, Dickens was no stranger to the difficulties of the lower classes. All of Dickens' work is coloured by these experiences but none more so than in Hard Times. In the fictional northern mill town of Coketon, we see the human cost of industrialism - the broken backs on which society stood.
Our bookish print uses a Charles Dickens quote to capture the contrast between the utilitarian wisdom responsible for industrialisation and the wisdom of the heart in its understanding of human suffering. We use a watercolour depicting a scene common to the fume-filled sky of Victorian England. Nevertheless, hope remains in the sun rays still able to cut through the smog of Coketon. This results in a vintage book poster perfect for readers and book lovers looking for literary gifts to curate an authentic bookish decor experience that stays true to the themes of this literary classic.
Our bookish wall art is a social justice art-inspired bookish gift perfect for any reading corner!
Take Charles Dickens' Hard Times beyond the shelf with our book poster. This book cover art print brings wisdom to any home decor - a great bookish gift for the book nook of book lovers!
