Great Expectations - Charles Dickens

Our Great Expectations Title Page art print inspired by Charles Dickens holds on to the possibility that difficult experience might change us for the better.

Part of our Title Page collection, this literary print pairs words and imagery to express what the story means to us. It is our interpretation of the work, rather than a reproduction of a published book cover.

The Story Behind the Design

"I have been bent and broken but - I hope - into a better shape."

Dickens' penultimate novel features some of his most memorable characters dragging themselves through extreme circumstances. From Magwitch, rising from the graveyard, and his exile, to Havisham, refusing to move forward and forcing her past on others. Great Expectations is our favourite Dickens novel featuring a genuinely unlikeable protagonist, funny moments (Pip's attempts to sort out his life with the comfort of stationery are particularly relatable), alongside unmistakenly dark Victorian gothic themes.

Our art print uses an illustration from the start of Pip's journey and our chosen Dickens quote demonstrates that difficulties may build or break us.
